About Me

My name is Tristan Timms and I am a student of Ancient History at the university of Amsterdam. I have had the privilege of finding my life's passion at a young age, and that is the learning and teaching of world history. I have been unknowingly working away at this for some time, mostly with my fascination of the written word, and how one uses language to construct compelling narratives. After teaching myself Latin during my gap year in 2023, whilst walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain, my interest has since been drawn to the ancient world, which ultimately brought me to Amsterdam to begin my studies that same year. My relationship with Amsterdam was one of love at first sight, not just with the outward sights of the canals or dancing townhouses, but rather what they symbolized - the birth of the individual, and in the process the creation of one of the most liberal cities on earth. I have since fostered this love by taking my passion and knowledge to the streets, working as a freelance guide taking groups on an array of tours with vastly different subjects, from the life of Anne Frank and Nazi occupation to the birth of the Dutch golden age, every subject I attempt to approach with the same sense of rigor and commitment to preserving these important histories. If you're interested in hearing more, take a look at what tours I'm currently running under the 'My Tours' section of the page.
